Plagiarism

Tue Jul 15, 2008, 5:28 PM
While I was at my writing group last night, we speaked briefly about plagiarism. To my surprise, there is no concrete definition of exactly what is considered plagiarism.

Now, seeing as :devart: is an artist community, I believe all of us here have some sort of view concerning plagiarism and how it is differentiated from just plain coincidence. So, out of curiousity, what is plagiarism in your books? :?

Plagiarism to me is stealing another person's work, no matter what it is.

Hmm....for me I would say that quoting or having something just like the person/source you get it from with out giving them credit is plagiarism.

plagerism: most people call it copying word for word, but i say it's just the stealing of an idea while thinly masking it with their own, horribly lame "flare"

Falling is fun, except for the landing, which completely stinks.
Copying Exactly. I don't mind 'inspiration' like you get an idea from something else. But...don't copy it exactly.

I've always thought of it as taking all or part of someone's work, whether copyrighted or not, and either passing it off as your work or including it in your work without permission to do so or credit to the true author.
